Help Cornish Charity to Aim High and Reach their Funding Target

Local inclusive dance and arts charity Shallal are closing in on their goal of raising £118,000 for a

major new three year project bringing people of all ages and abilities together to enjoy self

expression and creativity.  But your help is urgently needed to make it happen before time runs out.

National funding organisations Arts Council England and Heritage Lottery Fund have pledged a

combined £80,000 towards this project which uses dance and arts to celebrate Cornish Heritage, but

the money will be withdrawn unless match funding is secured by 10th June this year.

Shallal is calling upon one and all to donate any amount of money, large or small in one last effort to

get the project funded and keep this money in Cornwall for our communities.

The county-wide project entitled ‘Cornish Doorways’ works with the libraries as well as arts and

heritage venues to offer skills and opportunities well as boosting self confidence and improving the

health and wellbeing of participants.

Shallal is an established charity with over twenty years of delivering inclusive projects in Cornwall.

The charity has a matter of weeks to find this money before funding is withdrawn. To donate, please

email us at admin@shallal.org.uk .

Arts & Health South West Prize – shortlist announced for £5000 prize

Eight innovative arts in health projects based in Bristol, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and

Somerset are in the running for three awards of up to £5000 in the 2015 Arts &

Health South West Prize.

The shortlisted projects are competing for a first prize of £5000, runner up prize of

£1000 and an individual prize of £1000 in recognition of their outstanding

contribution to arts, health and wellbeing in the South West region in the last year.

The shortlisted organisations are (in alphabetical order):

Az2B Theatre Company, based in Penryn, Cornwall, for their play Grandma

Remember Me?

Coda Music Trust, which works across Bournemouth and Poole for their

project Dementia Notes

The shortlisted schemes were selected from more than 50 organisations competing

for the prize, awarded by Arts & Health South West (AHSW). AHSW is a nationally

recognised, registered charity which promotes the use of the arts to encourage

health and wellbeing.

The AHSW Prize is kindly sponsored by the Fine Family Foundation.

The judges faced a challenging task in selecting the shortlist. One of the panel,

Frances Chinemana, Associate Director of Public Health, Wiltshire, said:

“Arts organisations and health trusts are working together to develop creative and

innovative interventions, designed to help some of the most vulnerable groups.  I

am hopeful that increasing the profile of arts and health and its effectiveness

through the AHSW prize will add to commissioners' understanding of this work, and

encourage them to mainstream it as part of public health provision”

The winners will be announced at a prize giving event at Bristol Museum and Art

Gallery on June 8th. The event coincides with the exhibition: William Hogarth: Painter

and Printmaker. Hogarth was a founding father of Arts and Health through his work

with the Foundling Hospital. Caro Howell, Director of the Foundling Museum, will give

a keynote speech at the event.
